Shah, a patient of coronary heart disease was admitted to the hospital on Sunday noon and allotted bed no 501.Doctors at the hospital have suggested that there is a need to install a pacemaker in his heart.
A source at the hospital said that cardiologists at the hospital would install implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) in Shah's body. ICD is a small device that is placed in the chest or abdomen. Doctors use the device to help treat irregular heartbeats. An ICD uses electrical pulses or shocks to help control life threatening arrhythmias, especially those that can cause sudden cardiac arrest.
The hospital source informed that a team led by Dr Bharat Rawat would perform surgery on Shah on Sunday evening. The former prince is also a diabetic.
Shah was admitted to Samitivej Hospital in Bankok, the capital of Thiland, in 2013 following a massive heart attack. The doctors at the hospital had placed a stent in his right artery.
Before this, in 2007, doctors at Norvic International Hospital had already installed a stent in his left artery following his first heart attack.
A stent is a small mesh tube, which is used to treat narrow or weak arteries. Stent is placed in an artery as part of a procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), which is also known as angioplasty.
