Paragliding tournament from Sunday

POKHARA, Feb 16: Nepal Airsports Association (NAA) is organizing the 13th edition of Open Paragliding Tournament in Pokhara next week with the aim of promoting adventure sports. National and international paragliders are gearing up for the five-day event that will kick off in Sarangkot, Pokhara on Sunday.



The organizer, NAA, informed during a press meet on Thursday that altogether 150 paragliders from India, Germany, France, Russia, Bulgaria, Japan, South Korea and Canada are participating in the annual event.[break]



The participants list also includes 50 Nepalis, although only two are pilots while the rest are for tandem flight. Twelve female pilots are also participating in the event.



Event coordinator Sovit Baniya said the tournament will be held in eight different categories -- overall open, sports class, overall Nepali, best acrobatics, sports landing, tandem pilot, women´s category and raft landing.



The competitors will begin their flight from Sarangkot hill and land at Khare on the banks of Fewa lake.
