Panel formed for 'living martyr´s' treatment

KATHMANDU, Aug 2:Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Friday formed a panel of medical experts to take Mukesh Kayastha, regarded as a ´living martyr´ of the people´s movement-II, abroad for treatment.



The panel, led by neurosurgeon Dr Nilam Kumar Khadka, has been instructed to determine whether Mukesh, who has been bed-ridden since being hit by a bullet while chanting slogans for democracy in Banepa of Kathmandu on April 9, 2006, needs to be taken abroad for treatment. [break]



The panel, which has neurophysician Dr DB Shah, ENT surgeon Dr Lal Kishor Yadav, Ophthalmologist Dr Puja Karki and Dr Ananta Adhikary as its members, will submit its report in 15 days.



The panel was formed after Mukesh´s mother Mira urged Chairman of Interim Election Council Khila Raj Regmi to help in Mukesh´s treatment. Mukesh was just 15 and studying in eighth grade when he got hit by a bullet.
