KATHMANDU, Aug 14: The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu held a flag-hoisting ceremony on Friday to mark Pakistan’s 80th Independence Day.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Nepal Mohammad Aamir Khan unfurled the national flag at the embassy’s Chancery in the presence of members of the Pakistani community, Nepali guests and embassy officials and their families.
Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Khan paid tribute to the struggle for independence in 1947 and the sacrifices of Pakistan’s founding generation. He highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in West Asia and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to peace and progress.

He also expressed readiness to further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Nepal and Pakistan, based on their longstanding civilisational and historical relations and shared values.
Messages from Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar were also read out at the ceremony.
In his message, President Zardari paid tribute to Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the leaders and workers of the Pakistan Movement, saying independence was both a historic achievement and a responsibility. He highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to promote dialogue and de-escalation in the region.
Prime Minister Sharif said Pakistan’s journey towards development and prosperity was moving forward despite challenges, while highlighting the role of the country’s armed forces in safeguarding its sovereignty.
Foreign Minister Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to sovereignty, security, territorial integrity, international law and regional peace, while paying tribute to the country’s armed forces, police and paramilitary forces.
