PHALEBAS ( Parbat), Dec 3: Many of micro hydro-power projects based in rural parts of Parabat, eight are not in operation.
Out of 11 micro- hydropower projects developed by the joint venture of the United Nations Development Programme, World Bank and the Nepal Government around one and half decades ago, eight have been completely closed. The trend of closing the locally-operated micro hydro-power projects began with the supply of electricity to the villages from the national grid.
The 12-KW Aghuwakhola Micro Hydro Power Project based in the south Parbat, the 7.5-KW Gadhisiddha at Pangrang, the 11-KW Bachchhakhola, the 12-KW Gedikhola at Huwas, the 16-KW Dhuwakot at Bhorle VDC and the 16-KW Ghattekhola based in Kyang VDC have been completely closed.
Only the 27-KW Thadokhola Project based in Bhuktang VDC, the 6 KW- Chhaharekhola at Bhoksing and the 9 KW- Charchharekhola Project are operational, according to District Development Committee Energy Section Chief Manju Shilakar. Consumers are not interested in resuming the closed power projects though power produced at local level is cheaper than that supplied from the national grid, she said. Efforts are going on to revive the closed projects, it is learnt. RSS
