KASKI, March 27: Former Prime Minister and leader of the UCPN (Maoist), Dr Baburam Bhattarai, said that the intention of the planned agitation by the 30-Party Alliance was not for launching armed rebellion and reviving the monarchy.

At an interaction organised by the UCPN (Maoist) Kaski at Pokhara today, Bhattarai said, "Now there is no need of a revolt and it is also not possible. Present agitation is for promulgating the new constitution through consensus."He argued that the Alliance launched the agitation as the ruling parties showed the arrogance of majority against the 12-Point Agreement, the people's movement and other agreements.

Stressing that there was no alternative to making comprises among the political parties, leader Bhattarai urged the ruling parties to end the existing stalemate by signing one another agreement like the 12-Point Agreement.

He further said that they were ready to finalize the remaining issues through the Constituent Assembly if consensus was forged on republicanism, federalism, secularism and inclusion.

The former Prime Minister reiterated that the ruling parties should be flexible on the contentious issues. He also expressed possibility of a revolt at the people's level if their demands were not addressed.

He further said the political parties are already agreed on the issues of the electoral system, and that they are positive regarding the '50 per cent direct and 50 per cent proportional model' under the electoral system.
