Laxman Tharu, central committee member of the Madhesi Peoples Right Forum-Democratic (MJF-D), the largest Madhes-based political party, is leading the lobby. Leaders opposing the general strike have said they will not support the opposition alliance if it does not withdraw programs of general strike at the earliest.
“It is not yet time to stage general strike since the ruling side is ready for talks,” Tharu said. He informed that he along with other youth leaders of the Madhes-based parties have asked top guns to withdraw the decision. Dozens of youth leaders in the opposition camp are supporting the anti-protest campaign. “We are launching a formal campaign against the general-strike from March 29,” he said. UCPN (Maoist)-led opposition alliance has announced four-day general strike as part of its month-long protest program.
