KATHMANDU, Aug 14: The participants of the Nepal Youth Conference 2024 have submitted the ‘Youth Declaration’ to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The declaration that was prepared by two conferences of youth participating from all seven provinces was presented to Prime Minister Oli.

The Nepal Youth Conference was organized on the occasion of the International Youth Day under the leadership of Government of Nepal, Ministry of Youth and Sports and National Youth Council, and in partnership with the United Nations in Nepal and with the support of civil society organizations.

Nepal's Youth Declaration will contribute to the 'Fact of the Future'. It will outline the actions and commitments of member states to promote a sustainable world community for both present and future generations. The declaration urges leaders to take essential steps to ensure that young people have access to the skills and services needed to achieve their full potential.

As Nepal is upgrading to a middle income country, creating social and economic opportunities is necessary to speed up youth development and to take initiatives to remove obstacles including harmful practices against women and children, youth with disabilities and effective climate action for clean, healthy and sustainable development.

Prime Minister Oli, receiving the ‘Youth Declaration’, committed to represent the hopes and expectations of the Nepali youth at the Summit of the Future in mid-September and mid-October.

Emphasizing the importance of the participation of youth in decision making, access of essential resources, and investment in skills and innovation, Hanna Singer- Hamdy, the UN Resident Coordinator in Nepal, said that empowering youth is crucial to contribute to economic growth, gender equality, build a prosperous, and sustainable development for future.

Youth consultations were conducted in all seven provinces of the country before the conference to enhance the knowledge, skills and abilities of the youth participants in areas such as education, health, migration, social security, gender equality, climate change and other related areas.

Over 170 youth representatives from all the seven provinces of the country participated in the conference which was inaugurated by President Ram Chandra Paudel on August 12.

In the conference, there was a discussion regarding six subjective groups of education and digitalization, health, migration, decent work, social security, climate change and the agro food system.
