DHARAN, Oct 20: One-way traffic has resumed on the Dharan-Dhankuta section of the Koshi Highway, which was blocked due to floods in the Leuti River triggered by continuous rain.
The road, which was blocked at around 4 PM yesterday, was repaired and reopened at around 2 PM today. According to Sub-inspector Surendra Khadka of the District Traffic Police Office, Dhankuta, an initiative is being taken to operate the road on both sides. However, he said that there is a problem due to a breakdown of an excavator machine. “The road has been opened for one way. Vehicles are being passed," said Sub-inspector Khadka.
According to Khadka, it was not possible to find an alternative route immediately as the floods had cut off the roads. Therefore, one-way traffic has been brought into operation. “The road division office was repairing the road using three excavators but one of the machines broke down,” said Khadka.
The swollen Leuti River had obstructed about 150 meters of the Koshi Highway yesterday. Hundreds of vehicles and passengers were stranded after the highway was disrupted. According to him, more than 500 vehicles, including motorcycles, were stopped. Khadka also informed Republica that the traffic is decreasing despite the road having come into operation for one side only.
