BARDIYA, Nov 8: A person died and six others were injured in a car accident on Thursday afternoon in Bardiya. The deceased has been identified as 59-year-old Dirgha Narayan Pangeni, a resident of Bansgadhi Municipality-8, Kakoura.
According to the police, the accident occurred when a three-wheeler (Bhe 1 Cha 468), traveling from Lakshmana to Bansgadhi, went out of control and fell five meters below the road at Materia Chowk, Bansgarhi Municipality-4, along the East-West Highway. The driver of the vehicle, 50-year-old Chilla Tharu from Bansgadhi Municipality-6, was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

Dirgha Narayan Pangeni and 70-year-old Yashoda Pangeni from Syangja were seriously injured in the crash. The two were rushed to Medical College Kohalpur, where Dirgha succumbed to his injuries at 6 pm on Thursday. Yashoda is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
The five other passengers suffered minor injuries and were treated and discharged. Police have detained the driver for an investigation into the accident, said DSP Rishi Ram Gharti Magar.
