One killed in bear attack

Arghakhanchi, Jan 4:  One person has died after being attacked by a bear in Sitganga Municipality.


According to the District Police Office, Ram Bahadur Chhetri, 80, died after being attacked by a bear in Sitapur, Ward No. 2, Sitganga Municipality. Chhetri was attacked by the bear in Rani Community Forest while going from home to a place called Jhira.

The police team of the area police office, Thada, and local residents rescued him and took him to the primary health center, Thada, but he died. "Our team arrived and rescued him as soon as the incident happened," said Krishna Ghimire, spokesperson for the District Police Office, "He died while being taken to the hospital."


As there is a large forest area in the Sitganga, there is a risk of human-wildlife conflict. The police have urged the people to be cautious as there have been attacks by wild animals in the past days as well. The police have also requested not to walk alone in the community forest and nearby areas and to be careful if they have to.
