One killed, five go missing in Myagdi landslides

MYAGDI, July 30: One person has been killed and five others were have gone missing after landslides triggered by incessant rainfall buried houses in Mudi and Muna of Myagdi on Wednesday night.

According to Resham Pun, chairman of local Dhaulagiri Youth Club, Alina Pahre Pun, a nine-year-old has been killed after being swept away by a flood in local Ghopsikhola triggered by landslide in Muna VDC-4.

Four people including three of the same family have gone missing after landslides buried a cow shed in Garkhoriya of Nerwang in Mudi VDC-5 of the district.

Locals said that scores of shepherds and 50 cattle heads were also feared buried in landslide in Garkhoriya of Mudi VDC, according to Khabin Gharti, President of the Jana Yuba Club in Mudi.

Locals hae been mobilized in the rescue work while a team of police has left for the site this morning, which is two hours trek away, Deputy Superintendent of Police Hira Giri said.
