HUMLA, August 14: Local authorities recovered 5.3kg of Yarsagumba, also known as the caterpillar fungus, from Humla Airport on Friday.

According to Madhav Prasad Shrestha, spokesperson and Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Provincial Police Office of Surkhet, 31-year-old Nurbu Tamang of Namkha Rural Municipality-1 of Humla has been arrested in connection with the incident. The yarsagumba was recovered from a Tara air flight that had travelled from Nepalgunj to Simikot, SP Shrestha informed Republica.

According to Heramba Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the district, the yarsagumba was recovered in the process of regular checking and has been sent to the District Division Forest Office for further action.

“Although the Division Forest Office of Bhajang had permitted the possession of 2kg of the medicinal herb, Tamang was found with an extra three kgs of yarsagumba,” DSP Sharma said. “The herbs were recovered as he was carrying more herbs than the tax he had paid for,” he said. The police have handed Tamang over to the Forest Division Office of Humla.
