Asmita Chaudhari, of Kakadi VDC-8, who had gone to the forest along with her friends to collect fodder, was attacked by a group of tuskers, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Thakur Gyawali. [break]
SP Gyawali also informed that Chaudhari´s friends fled the scene and avoided the attack. Chaudhari´s dead body was found with her head and legs crushed.
District Forest Officer Man Bahadur Khadka said wild elephants have created havoc in forest areas of Sapahi, Skhuwaghat and Sahajnath VDCs for the last one month. Khadka also informed that efforts are being made to ward off wild elephants.
Meanwhile, the District Forest Office has provided Rs 50, 000 to the victim´s family to carry out the last rites of the deceased. Last year, wild tuskers had killed two women and two men. The incident had infuriated the locals who had taken to the streets demanding effective measures to restrict the movement of the wild tuskers in the forests. However, the authorities took no efforts to check the entry of wild elephants into human settlements.
