"After the bus crossed a stream between Birtadeurali and Kolanti, it struggled to climb uphill. After struggling to climb up, it halted, moved back and overturned," Uddhav Raj Giri, an injured passenger, said. The bus fell on the field some 30 meters from the road.
The bus (Ba 2 Kha 4816) operated by Koshipari Yatayat had left Old Buspark in Kathmandu at 7 am Friday. After it arrived at Banepa, many sacks of rice were loaded onto the bus, injured passengers said.

“They put 50 sacks of rice onto the bus at Banepa. There was barely enough space to sit. They reprimanded us when we told them that the bus was overloaded. They also put things on the roof,” said an injured passenger in Dhulikhel Hospital.
Most of the passengers have head and spinal injuries, according to doctors involved in treatment. One seriously injured passenger has been referred to B & B Hospital in Kathmandu while the rest are being treated at Dhulikhel Hospital.
Sudarshan Adhikari, a rescuer, said most of the injured passengers are those who were traveling on the bus roof. Most passengers were women and children.
