How do you summarize your movie Gambler?
It’s all about the life of a gambler. It shows how gambling ruins one’s life and his family. Through my movies, I’ve always wanted to portray different social issues so that people get some information. As we all know, gambling is one of the problems of our society. And at the same time, my film also says how important it is to realize the problem in time and the negative consequences of delayed realization.[break]
Why people come to the theaters to see your movie?
People have to come because the subject matter of the movie is based on one of the social issues. And the movie is very simple and clean. Families can watch it together.
I’m sure the movie will hold people for two hours.
How did you decide to make the film on this issue?
I’ve seen so many families ruined by gambling. So I decided to show this problem to the public in this movie. For example, Khyati Shrestha’s case was related with gambling.
Do you think that after watching this movie, gamblers will quit gambling?
Definitely. The movie will convince them to quit their wrong habit. The negative consequences of gambling are clearly portrayed in the movie.
What were the feedbacks you got after the premiere of the movie?
Many of my friends liked it and appreciated my work. But some of them commented on the ending part of the movie which is very tragic. They have shared that the movie would’ve been superb if it had a happy ending.
When will your movie be released in the theaters of Nepal?
The movie will be released on August 23.
What’s the present scenario of the film industry of Nepal?
It’s in a developing state. But in the last two years, increasing vulgarity in Nepali movies has created fear among us. Today, the number of audiences is decreasing because of such obscenity. So, in order to develop our film industry, this problem has
to be solved as soon as possible.
So what should be done to address the problem?
First, filmmakers should be able to do self-censorship. S/he must be aware that her/his film will have high impact on society. So they have to analyze their subject matter and decide whether or not they should present it. And the next thing, the government should introduce new guidelines for moviemaking.
What will be your next project?
My next project will be all about women, their suppression in this male-dominated society. It’ll also focus on the old the Sati Pratha. I’ve decided to come with this issue because in the last few years there’s been a huge increase in rape cases, murder of women, among others.
So when will people get to see your new film?
It’ll take time as I have to decide other things for the movie, like characters and perfect spots, among others. For now, I have the story idea and a clear concept of the movie. Once we’re done with all our preparations, we’ll start our shooting.
