TANAHU, May 9: K P Sharma Oli faction of CPN-UML at a meeting of the party´s Tanahun district committee has suspended party membership of Rishiram Bhusal, who is close to Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, for one year accusing him of working against party policy.

The district committee accused Bhusal, who is the chief of the party´s youth wing in the district, of leading the group that attacked party´s district chairman Kedar Sigdel, vice-chairman Shriprasad Shrestha and Secretary Bidya Dhakal three months ago.[break]

Two parallel youth wings -- one backed by Chairman Khanal and the other backed by Oli -- are in operation in the district.

A leader close to Khanal said the district committee´s decision to suspend Bhusal was illegitimate as the decision was taken by a meeting that fell short of a quorum.

Some leaders close to Khanal present there boycotted the meeting after there was a heated debate between the two sides.
