The hiring at over half a dozen higher secondary schools have been delayed by the tussle between principals and school management committee to appoint their kin to the posts. In absence of teachers to guide them in their studies, students have been left to fend off for themselves, which, according to many students complained, was hampering their education.
The bickering over hiring has delayed appointment of four teachers at Janapriya High School of Dasera, four at Birendra Higher Secondary School of Junga Thapachaur, two at Manyadunga Higher Secondary School of Talegaun, and one each at Bhanubhakta Higher Secondary School of Lahai, Narayani Higher Secondary School at Karkigaun, Adarsha High School of Luwadada, and Mahendra High School in Kortang, according to the DEO.
"We would have appointed teachers long ago. But some of the members on the management committee are bent on giving the teachers' jobs to their relatives, which has caused the delay," accused Sher Bahadur Adhikari.
The government had permitted a total of 19 schools in the district to hire four new teachers each, the DEO informed. "We have been reminding the schools about the delay in appointing teachers. However, we have not been able to take action against them yet," said Acting District Education Officer Yagyashwor Khatri.
Keshav Jung Sah, a local civil leader, said that failure of school management committee to fulfill their responsibility may ruin the future of students. Students also complained that their studies have been hampered due to negligence on part of their schools.
At a meeting held at the DEO last September, the stakeholders had agreed to appoint new teachers by December 1.
