Officials intensify market inspection in Birgunj

BIRGUNJ, Sept 20: Local administration in Parsa has intensified market inspection in Birgunj in a bid to ensure that consumers get essential commodities at fair price ahead of the festive season.



Shreedhar Acharya, chief of Parsa District Commerce Office, said monitoring teams inspected 14 shops in the third week of September.

According to Acharya, market inspectors found that many traders were selling expired and unlabeled items. “Some of the even didn´t have standardized weighing machine,” said Acharya.[break]



Market inspectors also found expired and unlabeled products in the kitchens of hotels and restaurants in Birgunj.

The monitoring teams had representatives from Parsa District Administration Office (DAO), Nepal Police, DCO Parsa, Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City Office and representatives of consumer rights organization.



The teams had inspected 69 shops, hotels and restaurants over the past two months.

Acharya said the teams had directed traders to follow fair business practice and not to cheat customers.

Market inspectors, however, seized expired and unlabeled products from the market.
