NWPP for executive presidential, RJM for prime ministerial system

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP) has proposed for presidential system of the government in tandem with the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist). The Maoist parliamentary party has already decided to go for the executive presidential system. The party has set the authority of Prime Minister as second to the the President. [break]



During a meeting of the Constitutional Committee on Thursday morning, NWPP Chief Narayan Man Bijukchhe also proposed that the current 14 zones be converted into states in the new federal structure, besides providing executive power to the President in the new constitution. However, Rastriya Jana Morcha and the Communist Party of Nepal (United) have proposed a prime ministerial system of government.



Chairman of Rastriya Jana Morcha Chitra Bahadur KC also warned all political parties of the danger of sliding towards disintegration in the name of federalism. KC has proposed the President will remain ceremonial head in the new constitution. Chairman of the CPN (United) Chandra Dev Joshi said the issue of federalist structure of the state should be decided only after considering economic, geographical and cultural aspects of concerned states.
