KATHMANDU, June 1: The Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party (NWPP) has demanded that President Ram Chandra Paudel's certification of the Citizenship Bill be revoked immediately.

Party Secretary Prem Suwal published a press release on Thursday opposing and criticizing the certification of the Citizenship Bill.

A meeting of the party’s central secretariat chaired by the party chairman Narayan Man Bijukche  on Thursday decided to publish a press statement against the validation of the anti-national citizenship bill.

The statement said, “The certification of the ‘Bill to amend the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063’ by the current President Ram Chandra Paudel which was refused by then President Bidya Devi Bhandari, without the permission of the Parliament is against the supremacy of the Parliament and the parliamentary tradition.”

It is further stated in the statement, “Maoist Center Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's Council of Ministers formed after the parliamentary elections of November 20, 2022 bypassed the Parliament and requested the current president to approve the bill on May 25, 2023, which is illegal and contrary to democracy.”

In the statement, it is said that the bill rejected by the previous president cannot be considered valid without the permission of the parliament. "The provision of the bill to obtain Nepali citizenship by descent for the children of foreigners who obtained Nepali citizenship on the basis of birth before October 19, 2015 and foreign persons born to Nepali women married to foreign nationals is not in the interest of Nepalis," it is said in the statement.

The party also opposed the map prepared under the Indian expansionism by including Nepal's Lumbini and Kapilvastu and placed in the parliament building of India on 27th May stating that it is the interference of Indian expansionism on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nepal. “The Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party opposes and condemns this intervention of Indian expansionism,” mentions the statement.

“It is necessary to get the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led coalition government to cancel this new map of India. Until this map is canceled, the patriotic Nepali people will continue their struggle against Indian expansionism,” the statement reads.
