Number of people with AIDS increasing

KHALANGA, (Baitadi), Dec 7: Number of people living with HIV/AIDS in Baitadi has increased to 86 from 54 during the past nine months.



Among 86 people with HIV/AIDS in the district, 40 are female and 46 are male, according to the data disseminated by District AIDS Coordination Committee. [break]



HIV positive has been detected among most of the people approaching District Hospital and VCT Centre in Melauli, informed Coordinator of District AIDS Coordination Committee, Lokesh Lal Shah.



‘HIV has been mostly found among the wives and children of Nepali immigrants in India’, he said, adding that they are coming across a very tough time even to sustain livelihood due to poor economic condition.



According to the data, there are 10 HIV-infected children below 10. The highest number of HIV infected belongs to age class of 25-50 totaling 65. Of the total, 33 are working in India.
