KATHMANDU, May 16: The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has warned that it will take action if the internet service providers (ISPs) increase the internet tariff without information.

The ISPs have been asked not to increase the internet charges. Tariffs must be approved by the authority as per Section 42 of the Telecommunications Act, 2053 and the conditions of the permit.

The NTA made it clear through a statement that the ISPs are not allowed to increase the tariff. A statement published by the authority on Monday states, "There has been serious attention to the news published that the internet service providers have reached a mutual agreement to increase the internet service fees."

According to the NTA, the price cannot be increased against the law. The authority has told the ISPs that increasing the fee and tariff rate of internet service by them on their own sweet will will be contrary to the Telecommunications Act, 2053 and the Competition Promotion and Market Protection Act, 2063.
