KATHMANDU, Oct 27: Subscribers of Nepal Telecom (NT) sent 21.6 million SMS between October 13 and 26.

"More SMS was sent this Dashain as we had provided bonus SMS on every SMS sent during the festive period. We provided notification every morning on how many free SMS they could sent on that particular day based on the SMS sent the earlier day," Pratibha Vaidya, spokesperson of NT, said.Of the total 21.6 million SMS sent from NT's GSM prepaid and postpaid, and CDMA phones within its network, 8.3 million were bonus SMS, according to Vaidya.

Likewise, Ncell recorded 40 percent rise in SMS sent this year from 20 October (seventh day) to 22 October (tenth day) compared to same period last year. In 2014, Ncell had recorded only 5 percent growth in the number of SMS during Dashain compared to 2013.

Milan Sharma, corporate communication expert of Ncell, said 'Ramailo SMS' scheme through which customers could send SMS at just 10 paisa and the difficulty in traveling to their home town led to rise in the number of text messages sent during this festive period.
