KATHMANDU, April 19: Nepal Student Union – a student wing of main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) – is marking the golden jubilee of its establishment across the country today.

The NSU was established in April 1969 (6 Baisakh 2027 BS) when the mother party Nepali Congress was banned to operate its functions. Saint leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai was the chief guest when the NSU was established at Soyambhu in Kathmandu. Since then, NSU has been marking Baisakh 6 (April 19) as its inception day. In order to celebrate the day, the Kathmandu chapter of the student wing is hosting greetings exchange programme in the valley today where NC President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will be the chief guest.

Likewise, NSU's past central committee is organizing an open debate programme entitled 'Current situation and NSU role' while NSU Padmakanya Campus is hosting greetings sharing and tea reception on the occasion. NSU Dhading-Kathmandu Liaison Committee has set a light illumination programme while NSU Nepal Law Campus unit is also hosting a tea reception. Similarly, district chapters of the NSU are also marking the day by organizing several programmes in a fanfare.
