After their 1-0 defeat to Sankata on Saturday, manager Shrestha had accused big names in Nepali club football -- NRT, MMC and Three Star -- of indulging in match-fixing. [break]
At a program organized to felicitate the goal scorers of the AFC President´s Cup held last month in Dhaka, Bangladesh, President Shrestha said, “Either APF should prove the allegations or All Nepal Football Association should punish them.” Shrestha stated that NRT would correspond ANFA for probe and punishment regarding the allegations.
Shrestha who is also the vice-president of ANFA claimed that NRT have not involved in match-fixing in any of the matches they have played.
“If one doubts we had fixed the match with Sankata then it is false as the draw hampered our title dream,” Shrestha vented his ire, adding, “We had worked very hard to win the match. The allegation of match-fixing depicts lack of knowledge, and football cannot be promoted in such a way.”
During the program, an unknown Nepali residing in the United Kingdom had presented goal scorers of NRT with a cash prize of Rs 5,000 each through goalnepal.com, a football portal dedicated to Nepali football.
“Despite declaring cash prize to goal scorers during the President´s Cup, he (the donor) did not want to reveal his identity,” goalnepal.com CEO Bikram Thapa informed.
During their last match of the President´s Cup, NRT had defeated NTCPE Hasus of Chinese Taipei 4-3. Shayan Mosavi, Jeevan Sinkeman, Ranjit Shrestha and Nabin Neupane had scored one goal each for NRT.
