NRNA urges govt to maintain same air fare for them as Nepali citizens

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has requested the government to immediately cancel the arrangement of charging Nepalis coming from abroad the same air fare as foreigners during air travel within Nepal.

The delegation including the chairman of the association has submitted a memorandum to the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kiranti, requesting him to ensure that the air fare for NRNs be the same as for Nepali citizens.

On this occasion, Minister Kiranti expressed his commitment to remove the discrimination in air travel, end the deformities of the airport and create an environment for the NRNs to come and visit Nepal easily.

Similarly, in the meeting, the executive officer of the NRNA, Rabina Thapa, requested Minister Kiranti to facilitate the participation of NRNs in the tourism promotion sector of Nepal.

She mentioned that the National Coordinating Councils under the NRNA are organizing programs to promote Nepali art and culture in different countries of the world and said that they are eager to organize more programs in partnership with the government in the future.

Likewise, NRNA President Kul Acharya said that the Association is working as a bridge to connect Nepal with the world community and will continue to do so in the coming days. Acharya drew the attention of Minister Kiranti to revive the NRN Help Desk at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, as it is currently closed.

The vice president of the NRNA, RK Sharma urged the Nepal government to make a solid plan to attract tourists from the Middle East. He said that the Association can bring tourists from the Middle East to Nepal and said that the government should also cooperate for that.

Meanwhile, Minister Kiranti said that the government has been cooperating with the NRNs and that cooperation will remain the same in the future. He mentioned that the problems faced by the NRNs while coming to Nepal will be solved soon. He said that the participation of the NRNs will be increased in programs held abroad and in Nepal. He also expressed his commitment to take initiatives to address the demands raised by the Association through inter-ministerial coordination.
