KATHMANDU, June 11: Nepal Public School Employees’ Council (NPSEC) held a demonstration at New Baneshwar, Kathmandu, on Sunday. In the demonstration, the employees of public schools expressed their discontent over the budget's failure to address their concerns, symbolically protesting by banging utensils.

Speaking during the demonstration, Gangaram Tiwari, the national president of NPSEC, said that they had to protest because the then Minister for Education, Devendra Paudel's ministerial decision on September 4, 2022 to increase the salary of government school employees by two levels had no mention in the budget announced late last month.

He warned that the public schools would be closed indefinitely if their demand was not met by June 16, despite the peaceful protest till now.

He also said that the relay fast will be held in Kathmandu from June 12.

The protesters made demands like issuing the Federal Education Act, implementing Section 127, implementing Article 31 of the Constitution, and fulfilling their other demands.

Here are some photos of the demonstration taken by Republica photojournalist Prasan Gurung.
