KATHMANDU, April 30: The Norwegian Government is providing an additional NOK 100 million to the relief effort in Nepal.

"This means that Norway's total support for the response to the earthquake disaster in Nepal comes up to NOK 130 million which is equivalent to approximately 17.1 million US dollars. There is a huge need for assistance both in the short and the long term," said Prime Minister Erna Solberg, announcing the additional support, the Embassy of Norway stated in a press release Thursday.

On 29th April, a team of 34 rescue and medical personnel as well as five rescue dogs from The Norwegian Search and Rescue Dogs (NORSAR) arrived in Kathmandu. The rescue team has special expertise in searching for survivors, getting them out of the ruins and providing necessary first aid. The team has started its work in Kathmandu. RSS
