KATHMANDU, July 6: The ruling alliance has expressed its concern over the performance of opposition parties, including the CPN-UML, in parliament on Wednesday, terming it 'non-political' and 'unparliamentary'.

A meeting of the ruling partners today reached the conclusion that the opposition parties stood against the government efforts to ensure justice to those affected by the usury practice contributing  to aborting the government’s plan to present the 'Bill to Amend some Nepal Acts including the Civil Code-2080 BS'.

“The meeting that took place at the Prime Minister's official residence, Baluwatar, said any party/member in parliament is allowed to criticize the  public statement of the Prime Minister, but the way major opposition parties chose to protest was unparliamentary," said CPN (Unified Socialist) Vice Chairman Rajendra Pandey.

It may be noted that the opposition parties including the UML obstructed the House session on Wednesday over the Prime Minister's statement at a public program on July 3, preventing the tabling of the Bill to materialize the Ordinance regarding the criminalization of loan-sharking.

Meanwhile, the meeting decided to propose Uddhav Thapa of Nepali Congress as the Chief Minister candidate in the Koshi Province by 5:00 pm today.

CPN (Maoist Center) Koshi parliamentary leader Indra Angbo and CPN (Unified Socialist) Koshi parliamentary leader Rajendra Rai were also present in the meeting. They have been asked to proceed towards the recommendation of Thapa as the Chief Minister candidate on behalf of the alliance.

Similarly, an understanding was also reached to forward necessary processes regarding loan-sharking immediately, said chief whip of the CPN (Maoist Center), Hitraj Pandey.

"Ordinance to address usury issues could not be passed due to the obstruction in parliament by different parties including the CPN-UML on Wednesday. Parliament was obstructed raising unnecessary issues,” he mentioned.

Pandey shared that the meeting agreed to forward the ordinance soon and make necessary process for the same.

Likewise, vice-chairperson of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Rajendra Pandey, shared that the parties including the main opposition should give a clear answer to the citizens on how many days and why they will obstruct parliament.

It has clearly shown that the parties including the opposition have stood in favor of loan sharks, he said.

Chief Whip Pandey further said that it was wrong to demand the Prime Minister's resignation without listening to him, stating, "The PM's resignation cannot be imagined. The Prime Minister will address parliament on this matter."

Saying the government was active to provide justice to loan-sharking victims, Pandey added that today's meeting decided to move ahead with determination to maintain good governance and end corruption.

Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, NC Vice President and Defense Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, Chairperson of Janata Samajwadi Party, Upendra Yadav, Chairperson of Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Mahanth Thakur, Chairperson of Janamat Party, CK Raut, and Chairperson of Nagarik Unmukti Party, Ranjita Shrestha, were present in the meeting.
