Students of St Mary´s School in Pokhara, biovular twins Ira and Ila Thapa obtained 90.12% each to the surprise of many. Born 55 minutes apart, the daughters of Bishnu Bahadur and Saraswati had never before obtained identical scores in any exams. “We are very happy that our scores are identical,” elder sibling Ira said. “Earlier, we would have a difference of few marks. We are extremely happy in that we have the same scores this time around,” younger sister Ila concurred. Ira had obtained 91 and Ila 90 percent in the sent-up exams.
“We were pretty confident that they would get good marks but their identical scores have taken us by surprise,” mother Saraswati said. Father Bishnu Bahadur said everybody was delighted after knowing the results.
Shyam Shrestha, who has been teaching them math since the seventh grade, revealed that younger sister Ila was relatively more brilliant till the eighth grade. “But once we separated them and placed them in different sections, Ira also picked up,” Shrestha said.
Though the sisters have amassed similar aggregate, they have got identical marks in just two subjects -- 98 in compulsory math and 90 in optional math. Despite getting over 90 percent, the sisters are not satisfied with the result.
“We have got good aggregate but have not scored satisfactorily in individual subjects,” Ira said. “I am sad that I couldn´t score much in subjects like optional math,” Ila added.
Despite being twins, the sisters plan to pursue different careers. While Ira wishes to become a chartered accountant, Ila wants to study medicine.
“You don´t have to stay unemployed after becoming a doctor. It´s also a respected profession,” Ila reasoned and added that her elder sister wanted to be a chartered accountant. “I know it´s very hard to pass chartered accountancy. But it is a respectable profession,” Ira argued.
