No sugar shortage in market, Minister Yadav says

KATHMANDU, Oct 7: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Matrika Prasad Yadav has claimed that there was no shortage of sugar in the market. At a program organized on Sunday, Minister Yadav said, "The rumour of shortage of sugar in the market is untrue. There is no shortage of sugar in the market."

Saying that 180,000 metric tonnes of sugar is being produced in the country while the demand is 230,000 metric tonnes, Minister Yadav said there was the need to import 50,000 metric tonnes of sugar. Stressing the need of security of the domestic production, Minister Yadav said that there was no situation to sell per kg sugar at Rs 59 due to its cost and farmers’ hardship.
