KATHMANDU, July 7: Ruling out the possibility of government change, Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula has warned that the demand for dissolution of the Khil Raj Regmi-led government could further prolong its life by another four years.

Addressing an interaction at the Reporters´ Club in the capital on Sunday, Sitaula said there is no alternative to November 19 election under the Regmi-led government. “This government has been formed for holding election. So, we cannot think of any alternative to this government,” he said. [break]

Sitaula said his party would not accept government change and deferral of the Constituent Assembly election scheduled for November 19. “If we try to change the current government, it will stay for another four years. It will not be easy to form a new government,” he further said.

Sitaula said that four major parties are ready to address all demands put forth by the Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist, except the change of current election government. He said that the major parties are ready to hold an all-party meeting, increase the number of seats under proportional electoral system and reconstitute High Level Political Committee (HLPC) as demanded by the Baidya-led Maoist.

Sitaula also said that he does not believe that the CPN-Maoist would disrupt the polls. He argued that the parties would eventually reach consensus after people give their verdicts in the polls. “Parties can not represent the people without their mandate,” he further said.
