KATHMANDU, May 28: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota has said that there need not be 'smell of gunpowder in the society' as the republican system was already established in the country after a long struggle of people.

While addressing an awareness song competition organized by Radio Nepal and Nepal television on the occasion of the 12th Republic Day, today, at Singh Durbar, Minister Banskota argued that the republican system has ensured freedom, independence and equal opportunity to all, therefore, there was no need of going in protest, taking up arms.

He also shared that the incumbent government was leading the nation on the way to prosperity arguing that there was no possibility of overnight change in the country.

Minister Banskota said, "Future struggle is against ending poverty, strengthening social harmony and leading the nation on the way to prosperity."

As the government spent time in making new laws consistent with the constitution and building the structures in the past year, the plan and efforts in the coming days would be the journey towards prosperity.

Minister Banskota said, "The republic that has been brought in return of the people's tears and blood is not a gift presented by anyone. It is the fruit of the 70 years long struggle by the people. Now it's time to connect the country to international standards. No citizen will have to stay hungry now. We should work towards prosperity through the revolution in agriculture," he said.

Various artists had presented special awareness songs on the occasion. Songs talking about the establishment of the republic, the coming of new age, the need for promoting communal harmony and stories of sacrifices were presented. Nepal Telecom had sponsored the conference. The 12th Republic Day is being celebrated on May 29.
