They have been redeployed after protecting the premises for about eight years following the 9/11 attacks in the United States, reported asiaone.com.
The news of their redeployment first surfaced in an e-mail informing club members of the authorities´ decision to redeploy them starting from Monday.
Signed off by the club´s general manager, Ms Kathleen Urquhart, the e-mail read: "The government has advised that the security threat level in Singapore is such that redeployment of the Gurkha guards is appropriate, and we have confidence in the decisions being made by the government."
When contacted, the club declined to comment.
Gurkhas -- usually armed with shotguns or submachine guns -- are typically stationed at key installations, such as the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints, Singapore Cruise Center at HarbourFront Center, Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, Changi Ferry Terminal and Changi Point Ferry Terminal, as well as Jurong Island.
They also provided security at major international conferences and were last in the news because they were working at the Whitley Detention Center, from which Jemaah Islamiah leader Mas Selamat Kastari escaped last year.
