KATHMANDU, Sept 28: Nepali SKA-Punk band, NAYA FAYA, gave a thrilling concert-lecture to the Activista members and volunteers at Global Platform, Nepal on Tuesday, Sept 27.

NAYA FAYA will be supporting ActionAid’s campaign to defy the introduction of Monsato, a policy to import Genetically Modified (GM) food, in Nepal.[break]

Along with it, NAYA FAYA has been raising awareness about debatable topics such as caste, color, environment, traffic, sexual harassment, martyrs, riots and injustice.

The import of GM seeds will make our land infertile and also pose a threat to indigenous seeds that help increase our lands productivity.

Starting from Wednesday, Sept 29 Activista along with NAYA FAYA will be starting a campaign to go against the government’s policy to introduce GM seeds, with the motto ‘Monsanto Out of Nepal’.

According to the band members, “The products of Monsato have already been proven unhealthy but the evidence has been censored. Also, if Monsato comes to Nepal, the agriculture in the country will be dependent on it for all kinds of products such as, fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. We will not be importing healthy food but debt.”

In order to combat against this agenda of Monsato, the band and Activista members want to evoke the civil society and the government as well as mark the World Food Day on Oct 16.

“The band members carry a strong political opinion. Their style of spreading is new and unique. It is indeed very inspiring,” opined Delphine Pawlik, coordinator for the campaign.

“We saw documentaries ‘The World according to Monsato’ or ‘Parent for a Pig’, and we feel that it is our duty as youths to support Activista and NAYA FAYA for raising voice against this policy. This way people from various countries such as Denmark, Bangladesh, Maldives, Afghanistan, Nepal and Myanmar have come together to support us,” adds Albin Thapa, Activista volunteer.

The band members compose the lyrics themselves.

“We just discuss about the issues among us and if it clicks, we compose the song,” stated S Rai, lead vocalist and guitarist of NAYA FAYA. Other band members comprise M Gurung on guitars, O Betin on drums and N Tegmo on bass.
