Gaushala, April 25: A woman at Pipara Rural Municipality in Mahottari district does not have a citizenship certificate even after 25 years of her marriage.


She is 40-year-old Lalita Paswan, wife of Shatrughan Paswan. The Paswans have four children.

Lalita, who belongs to the dalit community, has not been able to avail of various allowances provided by the government to the underprivileged communities as she does not have the citizenship certificate. 


Her parental house is in Kharihani of Dhanusha, a neighboring district of Mahottari. She had asked her husband to have her citizenship made time and again. But her husband did not pay any heed to this, she said. 


Lalita said she even has not been able to enroll her children in school in the absence of the citizenship certificate. RSS
