KATHMANDU, Aug 4: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has said that there is no alternative to issuing a new constitution by mid-August and the parties were holding serious discussions for the same.

Following the meeting of the Special Committee under the Constitutional- Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (CPDCC), PM Koirala added that there might be more pessimism among the people if the constitution was not issued by the stipulated time.

Stating that he is optimistic about issuing the new constitution with delineation of provinces, the PM said that media should not disseminate negative news at such critical juncture.

Prime Minister Koirala said that eight years have passed in the name of drafting a constitution and it should not be prolonged anymore as all parties, people and even the international community were concerned over this delay therefore it might create more pessimism if the constitution is not issued soon.

He added that there would be no difficulty naming the provinces if the borders were delineated. Referring to some disgruntled Madhesi parties, PM Koirala said that they were holding discussions even in issues concerning the delineation of border to bring the disgruntled parties into consensus. 'Tearing the constitution' benefits none, he said.

Similarly, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli said that the new constitution with delineation of borders will be issued within mid-August as they were working with work division for the purpose.

The next meeting of the Special Committee would be held today itself to forge consensus to include the public feedbacks in the new constitution. RSS
