“We have realized that the distance between doctors and patients have widened in recent days,” said Dr Anjani Kumar Jha, Chairman of NMA, adding, “If we do not deal with the problem soon, more problems will surface in the future.” [break]
“We will organize an awareness program to tell the people that doctors are also human beings and can make mistakes,” he added. He said doctors too have limitations.
A survey conducted by the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) in the past has found behavioral problems among doctors.
NMA said it would organize orientation classes for doctors. “It is equally important for the doctors to improve their conduct toward patients,” he added. He also urged the public not to resort to violence.
“We cannot work in an environment of terror,” said Dr Kedar Narsingh KC, former chairman of NMA, adding, “Attacks on the doctors have been increasing. It is dangerous thing.”
“The NMA should teach the doctors to wisely deal with patients,” he added. He said that the problems have been emerging as patients and their relatives think that if anything goes wrong, it is the doctors who are to blame.
