KATHMANDU, Oct 6: Hundreds of people from various walks of life including cine artists, civil society, human rights activists and students have staged a demonstration at Maitighar Mandala demanding arrest of the culprit of the Nirmala rape and murder case.
Lashing out at the government for its failure to nab the culprit even after the three months, the irate protestors demanded the resignation of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa and Inspector General of the Police Sarbendra Khanal.

The protestors who gathered at Maitighar Mandala marched past Babarmahal, carrying placards reading “Dismiss IGP,” "Take action against those who destroyed evidences,” among others before it converged into a corner meeting at New Baneshwar.
Nirmala Panta, 13, of Kanchanpur had been gruesomely raped and killed in Bhimdatta municipality on July 27.
The government has been under fire for its failure to arrest the perpetrator involved in Nirmala’s rape and murder case even after three months, triggering a series of protests across the country.
