NHRC highlights need of combined efforts in post-disaster humanitarian assistance

KATHMANDU, July 17: The National Human Rights Commission has called on all to gear up for humanitarian assistance in the aftermath of widespread natural disasters and high possibility of scarcities of foodstuff, clothes and shelter, and infection of several diseases.

KATHMANDU, July 17: The National Human Rights Commission has called on all to gear up for humanitarian assistance in the aftermath of widespread natural disasters and high possibility of scarcities of foodstuff, clothes and shelter, and infection of several diseases.


 It has requested the three-tier government, all communities and charity organisations to join hands to ensure prompt distribution of relief materials to the survivors in a humanitarian way, appropriate compensation to the bereaved families and to make sure free and effective treatment to the injured.

As the Commission states, it is monitoring of post-disaster life of the survivors and rescue, relief and immediate rehabilitation efforts in the affected districts and gathering information to that end with the help of several channels. It has sought priority to pregnant, children, senior citizens and disabled in the rescue, immediate rehabilitation and relief distribution works.


Incidents of disasters triggered by recent incessant monsoon rains killed 83 people in the country while 35 were reported missing and 41 were injured. Thousands of families were forced to leave homes. ---
