KATHMANDU, Nov 24: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday asked the government to send a copy of the latter´s decision to implement nearly 500 of its recommendations, which have been gathering dust at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) for the last 14 years.

“We unofficially heard about the government´s decision to implement our recommendations, said Gauri Pradhan, Member of the NHRC adding, “We have sent a letter asking the government to send copy of the decision.”

The cabinet meeting last week had decided to implement NHRC´s recommendations in two phases. The government had decided to collect compensation from accused persons in the first phase and handover NHRC´s recommendations to the Office of Attorney General for further investigation in the second phase. Senior army and police officers, Maoist and other political cadres were recommended for punishment by NHRC on human rights violation charges.
