Newly-appointed Foreign Minister Rana pledges to uphold Panchasheel Principles

KATHLANDU, July 16: Newly-appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Arzu Rana Deuba affirmed Nepal's conviction for Non-Aligned Movement and Principles of Panchsheel. 

Talking to media persons after assuming office at the Ministry on Monday, she viewed Nepal bound between the two landmasses should maintain balancing relations with all nations, including neighbors. 

Foreign Minister Rana shared that the role of Foreign Ministry was significant for the country's prosperity, adding she would lay her focus to advance economic diplomacy for the country's development. 

She stressed that Nepal has signed different treaties, agreements and commitments and the implementation aspect could contribute to capitalizing economic diplomacy to nurture national interests of the nation. 

The newly appointed Foreign Minister directed the employees to maintain good governance and effective implementation of policies to provide better services.

She pledged to put further efforts to rescue those stuck in different countries in war. 

Newly appointed Minister Rana is a central committee member of the Nepali Congress. She is a member of the House of Representatives from the NC as well as President of Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee under the Federal Parliament. 

Rana, who became the minister for the first time, is the activist pitching for women rights, reproductive health rights of women, rights to property, and equal and equitable representation of women in every State agency. 

Born in Kathmandu in January 1962, she holds a PhD on Organizational Psychology from Punjab University Chandigarh of India. 

Foreign Minister Rana has been working on the issue of women rights since 1996 by establishing the Safe Motherhood Network. ---RSS
