Newborn baby found abandoned with umbilical cord still attached

KATHMANDU, Nov 17:  A newborn baby was found in a bush in Huprachaur, Hetauda. Locals informed the police after hearing the baby crying.

When the newborn with the umbilical cord was thrown into the bush, the baby suffered  minor injuries. The newborn baby, who was rescued by the police and taken to the hospital, is being cared for by Manav Seva Ashram and is being treated.

Isha Thapa, coordinator of Manav Seva Ashram Makwanpur, said that the condition of the infant being treated at Hetauda Hospital is normal. It is not yet clear who dumped the newborn on the street. Rudra Parajuli, Superintendent of Police, District Police Office, Makwanpur, said that an investigation is underway.

Manav Seva Ashram and Ani Chhoeing Dolma Foundation have conducted a special campaign from November 13 to November 20, with the original slogan of 'no one should live on the streets during this year's festival'. The campaign has been conducted to rescue destitute, disabled, helpless, orphans, parentless, mentally and physically weak street dependent people, from family reunions to celebrating festivals like Dashain, Tihar, Chhath with them.

Manav Seva Ashram’s founder president Ramji Adhikari said that the campaign was conducted targeting 46 districts connected with East-West highway from Mechi in the East to Mahakali in the West and some districts of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. According to him, 292 people of different age groups have been rescued so far.
