KATHMANDU, April 14: It is New Year- 2080 Bikram Sambat- today. The first day- Baisakh 1 of New Year 2080 BS- is being celebrated by exchanging greetings and with fanfare across the country in Nepal.
Bikram Sambat is an eternal calendar, for it runs synchronously with Sun's motion and state, according to Chairman of the Rastriya Dharma Shava, Dr Madhav Bhattarai

He further said Bikram Sambat incorporates both the features of Shak Sambat and practical aspects of Gregorian Calendar. The BS was introduced after 3,044 years since the beginning of Kali Yuga.
On New Year's Day, people review their past and make resolutions for further success.
The houses are made neat and clean and greetings are exchanged among family members, relatives, friends and colleagues. Similarly, special delicacies are prepared and relished. The Nepali people living in any part of the world celebrate Baisakh 1 as the New Year.
