KATHMANDU, August 26: The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has launched a new version of its taxpayer portal for testing, with the aim of making services easier, simpler and more efficient for taxpayers.
The IRD launched the portal for trial use on August 25. Director General Dr. Bhishma Kumar Bhusal said the existing taxpayer portal would remain in operation until the trial of the new portal is successfully completed.
The department said the new portal was developed using a “design-driven development” methodology and “microservice architecture.” The new system allows taxpayers to access various tax-related services online.

Previously, monthly statements submitted by establishments subject to excise duty could only be verified by the Inland Revenue Office. The new portal allows taxpayers to verify the statements themselves.
Similarly, under the income statement, the previous arrangement requiring taxpayers to fill out Schedule 10 themselves has been modified. The new system automatically generates the statement.
The department said the new portal also allows taxpayers to submit details of tax deducted at source on a monthly basis.
The portal also allows foreign investors to apply online for registration of a Permanent Account Number (PAN). Taxpayers can download their PAN cards, excise licenses and taxpayer certificates by logging into the portal.
Similarly, services related to amending Value-Added Tax (VAT) details have also been incorporated into the new portal.
The department said some minor technical issues may arise while the portal is being tested.
Bhusal said the portal would be made simpler based on taxpayers’ needs and that necessary new features would be identified and added in the future.
