KATHMANDU, July 12: CPN-UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has clarified that by ending the game of making the country a political laboratory, a new power equation has been formed to awaken the message of hope among the people.

Taking part in the discussion on the vote of confidence sought by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the House of Representatives today on behalf of his party, Bhattarai mentioned that since the establishment of democracy and drafting the constitution of the country, there have been times when people have been disappointed. He said that now once again two major parties have come together initiating a journey towards consensus and national development.

Stating that the UML would vote against the vote of confidence of PM Dahal, he said that now the new government to be formed would expedite development through effective governance and work based on the agenda of constitution amendment. Bhattarai argued that it is incorrect to credit only the Maoists for the democratic movement in Nepal and the constitution, as the Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, and CPN (Maoist Center) have all played significant roles. He mentioned that the NC and the UML were considering involving the Maoist Center in the constitution amendment process.

Bhattarai criticized PM Dahal for making false statements in anger while presenting his trust vote proposal in the House. He said that the present constitution and sovereign parliament are being run based on the principles of 'People’s multi-party democracy' propounded by leader Madan Kumar Bhandari. While the UML favored left-party unity, the Maoist Center seemed more focused on creating and breaking alliances, he said.

Bhattarai questioned the frequency of discussions regarding the votes of confidence and no confidence. He emphasized that the new power dynamics between the two major parties is centered around priorities such as implementing the Constitution, strengthening democracy, and securing the future of the country's youth by improving Nepal’s international standing and economy. In response to the Prime Minister's aggressive remarks, UML leader and lawmaker Bhattarai reminded him that during his three terms as prime minister, he consistently received support from these two major parties.
