New Diamond maintains winning streak

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Reed Model College has signed seven Indian players and a coach for the ongoing 12th edition of the Dhorpatan Women's Double League Volleyball Tournament who featured for the first time in its win over Diamond Sports Club on Wednesday.

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Reed Model College has signed seven Indian players and a coach for the ongoing 12th edition of the Dhorpatan Women's Double League Volleyball Tournament who featured for the first time in its win over Diamond Sports Club on Wednesday. 


Reed registered straight sets victory of 25-14, 25-6, 25-12 over New Diamond Sports Club, a junior team of New Diamond Academy. 


Host Dhorpatan Volleyball Club's President Manbir Chhantyal said that the arrival foreign players and coach helps to improvise the level of Nepali volleyball. “It's very positive that this edition of the tournament has seen the participation of foreign players and coach. The arrival of the Indian players and coach will help increase the competitiveness of the tournament,” said Chhantyal, adding, “Nepali players will also get chance to learn from them.”

According to Reed, among the seven Indian players Nirmala Tanuwar, Milimam Abraham and Priyanka Khedkar have experiences of playing for their national team. 


In the meantime, New Diamond Academy continued its winning form in the tournament as it defeated Chandeshwari Youth Club on Wednesday. To strengthen its position at the top, New Diamond overcame Chandeshwari 25-9, 25-11, 25-8. After the win New Diamond has extended its points tally to 15 from five matches. 


New Diamond's captain Lalita Nath, who helped her team maintain the first position in the league on her birthday, said, “We have been runner-up in the last four editions of the tournament so this time we want to lift the trophy. We are mentally prepared to win this tournament,” said Lalita Nath. 


“Nepali women's volleyball is dominated by our team and Armed Police Force as these teams play most of the finals in domestic tournament. Hopefully this time with the help of Indian players, Reed will challenge us and that will be fruitful for overall domestic volleyball,” said the skipper.   


Similarly in the another match of the day, Nepal Police Club overcame Western Region Volleyball Association 3-1 to extend its points tally to 12 points from six matches.
