The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) and Department of Revenue Investigations (DRI) have been investigating various cases of revenue evasion including VAT fraud involving some big business houses.

“He (Karki) instructed us to speed up the ongoing revenue investigation process, bring more sectors under the revenue net and minimize the cases of default so as to drive up revenue collection by discouraging revenue leakage,” Tanka Mani Sharma, director general of IRD, told Republica on Thursday.

“He assured us of every kind of cooperation in investigating the revenue cases,” added Sharma.

During the around two-hours long meeting, revenue officials apprised Karki about the revenue collection system and the latest updates of ongoing investigations. “We informed him (Karki) about the existing status of revenue administration and sectors to be targeted to minimize the revenue leakage,” Sharma said.
