NEPSE sheds 25.16 points; index plunges 70 points in three days

KATHMANDU, March 5: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) lost 25.16 points to close at 2,821.13 points on Wednesday.


It was the third consecutive day that the country’s stock exchange market performed poorly after the single day gain of 75.24 points on Sunday. In the past three days, the market shed around 70 points.  


On Wednesday, the secondary market opened at 2,846.30 points and it hovered around 2,845 points for the first two hours of trading. In the second half of the trading, the market went downhill and reached the day’s low at 2,809.09 points in the last 15 minutes. The market recovered around 12 points in the remaining period before it closed for the day.

Of the 13 groups, only trading added 18.57 points to its market value.  Life insurance had its index fall by 216.42 points, the highest of all. Non-life insurance, on the other hand, shed 201.83 points.


The sensitive index, which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies, also fell 5.70 points. Daily turnover declined to Rs 10.97 billion from Rs 12.94 billion on Tuesday.


Among the individual companies, 62 were gainers while 174 were registered as losers. Himalayan Reinsurance Limited enjoyed the highest turnover of its shares worth Rs 967.09 million.


Green Development Bank shed as high as 6.84 percent of its market value. Samaj Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited and Guardian Micro Life Insurance had their market prices increase by 10 percent, the largest of all.
